Probably this could have waited until the anniversary of Ferguson’s Mike Brown’s death. However, I #woke around the time of his and Eric Garner’s murders by police officers, both of whom were not charged for killing two unarmed black men.
Mike Brown, a big young man, nevertheless must have been afraid as he held his hands in air. He probably saw the hate in police officer Darren Wilson’s eyes, so pleaded “Don’t Shoot!”, before Wilson riddled his body with bullets.
The Ferguson cops then let Mike Brown’s body lie in the streets of his community (for over four hours) so all could see and be warned the same could happen to them.
Judge, Jury & Executioner!
You see, prior to this I was aware but not truly ‘woke’ to the extent of the disparities of justices inherent in the US criminal system. The Secret Grand Jury met and acquitted Mike Brown’s killer, Darren Wilson. The prosecutor squarely defended Wilson’s actions.
So who represented Mike Brown’s human right to life?
Mike Brown was only a teenager like any other kid, except he was black and lived in a targeted community of color. The media unsurprisingly portrayed him as a thug while ignoring the strong ties between the KKK and the Ferguson police department. #OpKKK
A picture is worth a thousand words; these images give a glimpse into the aftermath of Mike Brown’s death.
These days, Black children have just one dream when they grow up, and that is to be ALIVE!
