THE RACE HISTORY OF Ida B Wells
By Angela Grant
Below is a link to a great documentary video on Ida B Wells as well as on race.
The same strategies used then to intimidate and keep Black people down, and fearful of Whites, are still employed today in the USA. And a similar state of corruption, lawlessness and injustice exist today as existed in the Civil War era south.
The video shows why Black people are angry. Wouldn’t you, non-black viewer, if you suffered the injustices we have?
A quick lesson: In America at least, Blacks cannot be racist! Maybe prejudiced, but racism is a socio-political fascism, with economic power that gives Whites authority over Blacks.
Surprisingly, and to our credit, most Black people don’t hate Whites. And not to the degree Whites have organized themselves around their hatred of Blacks. We don’t spread fake news just to foster hatred and violence as many Whites and their racist organizations, such as the KKK, Fox News or CNN.
To be told that we live in a country that respects human rights, liberty, freedom and the pursuit of happiness, and even fight constant wars for those values, yet be denied the sentiments of humanity daily is frustrating, disappointing and defeating. Since the beginning of modern American history until now, Black people have had their human rights abused, denied and violated on a daily basis. Even Jesus Christ, if subugated so, would be angry.
After the Civil War, the South created a narrative that Blacks were savages and a threat to Whites, especially White women. A false narrative still told and sold to many to manipulate them into such fear. A fear that fuels White violence against innocent Black men, women and children.
The video points out how the economic power of solidarity can be used to strangulate abusive power. With so many Black people being shot, lynched and burned to death by Whites, Ida B Wells called for her peers to leave Memphis and migrate to Kansas and Oklahoma. That peaceful exodus resulted in many Whites going out of business and resulted in even more violence to stop the exodus and bring Blacks back to continue the work of building economic prosperity for the US.
You see, the truth is, Whites need us! That is OUR position of power that can be leveraged. One we have yet to organize around today to gain our economic freedom and justice.
The purchasing power of Black people today is in the trillions. If we decided, as an economic block where to spend that money, we would restore justice and find our financial independence.
Why haven’t we done this?
Well, in a small way we have, from the Black Wall Street to #Powernomics. Now is the time we can blossom from these early shoots.
While long at about 55 minutes, this video tells the courage of Ida B Wells, who used the power of the press to increase awareness and ultimately showed how one person can make a huge difference…
