Let me get this one point out of the way before some think that I’m presenting this article as some sort of an endorsement of one party or another. I am politically independent myself and want absolutely nothing to do with either bankrupt party. But if we as a people are going to be involved politically, for I don’t think it is wise for us to vacate the political process en mass, then it is high time we start being smart and stop being the stepping stools and stooges of the Democratic party.
First, let’s us clear up some DNC propaganda that is passed off as fact by one too many black toady who has everything to gain as they are propped up as “black leaders”. The Democratic party is not some knight in shining armor that we are indebted to. We do not own them a damn thing, Lincoln was not the great emancipator the way he is presented to our children in the indoctrination we call the public-school system. One article is not enough to go into all the details, but it doesn’t take too much research to figure out that he was ambivalent at best about the notion of abolition (read “House Divided” speech) and when he finally did “emancipate” the slaves, he did so only as a military tactic.
This one historical fallacy about Lincoln had “black” folks wedded to the Republican party for two generations. Until another set of lies changed our allegiance and made us go from the frying pan to the fire. This time around, the deception was based on the myth surrounding Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The social programs he passed, which were pennies compared to the billions he shoveled to Wall Street (sound familiar) was sold to “black” folk as proof of FDR’s benevolence and care for us. Lincoln freed us; Roosevelt fed us-these two fables thus put us right back into subservience.
Thus, for almost a century and a half, we have been voting for one party or another in almost absolute fidelity. In politics, this is suicide and leads to nullification in ways that few understand. When more than 95% of any group votes for one party, that one group is just begging to be ignored and be taken for granted. That is precisely what the Democrats have done ever since they realized that lip service was enough to get us to vote uniformly for them.
Even when we finally could elect the first “black” president, the issues we care about and that impact our communities were left off the table. Barack Obama bent over backwards to cater to the concerns of Jewish, GLTB, and Latino voters, when it came to our voices he sang Al Green songs and gave us little else. The wealth gap between the “black” community and the rest of America exploded, gentrification worsened, and the prison industrial complex metastasized as we are now in an age of the second Reconstruction where slavery has been reconstituted through penal codes.
If we don’t wise up and play the game of politics, politics will continue to play us. Stop being loyal to one party or another, be loyal to the issues that matter to us and then make these vacuous politicians work hard for our votes and for us. If not, we will continue to walk in the wilderness for no one invests time wooing people who beg to be taken advantage of. We have to realize the power is in our votes and not in their office, it is time to be strategic when we vote and stop carrying the bags of Democrats and letting them see us as their dependable porters.
